Periodontal Disease

Preventive Periodontal Therapy is for patients who do not have bleeding gums or bone loss but shallow pockets of bacteria in the gums. This therapy consists of above-the-gum polishing and bacterial disruption using microultrasonics to flush out the shallow pockets.

Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gum tissue but with no bone loss. It’s the mildest stage of gum disease and the only one reversible with professional treatment and good oral care at home.

Gingivitis Therapy begins with a needle-less anesthetic. Bacteria in shallow pockets is disrupted with microultrasonic treatment and bleeding areas are irrigated with an antibacterial rinse to help soothe the tissues. This is done every 10 to 14 days until your gums have healed, followed by 6-weeks of additional therapeutic treatments.

Six-week Therapy is the final step of gingivitis or periodontal therapy in which microultrasonics are again used with an antibacterial gum irrigation treatment plus a time-released antibiotic. This therapy lets the dentist gauge healing to recommend a schedule of further treatments.
